Smartphones store all our personal information digitally, whether it’s bank accounts, property papers, or anything else. If our phone is lost or stolen for some reason, there is a high possibility that the person who stole it can misuse our bank details.

Block your SIM card
First and foremost, you need to ensure that your phone number isn’t misused if you lose your phone. Blocking your SIM card means blocking any app on your phone that can be accessed via an OTP.
Our SIM cards are now directly linked to our bank accounts. Therefore, block your SIM card immediately. To block your SIM card, either contact your telecom operator or visit an outlet.
Block your mobile banking.
First, call the customer care number of the bank you use and provide some information to immediately block your mobile banking. If possible, visit a bank branch and have this done in person.
Your SIM card and mobile app go hand in hand, as no transfers can be made without an OTP on the registered number. However, if your phone is lost or stolen, both should be blocked.
Block UPI and mobile wallets
If your mobile phone is stolen or lost, immediately deactivate all UPI IDs and wallets. These days, everyone has UPI apps on their smartphones. Our accounts are linked to these UPI apps. Therefore, the person who stole your mobile phone could access the UPI apps and siphon off your money. Therefore, block these immediately.
Choose an app with better security.
There are many different UPI apps available to customers today. Some of these apps are not very secure and have been subject to RBI action from time to time.
In the event of a lost or stolen mobile phone, the best defense is to take immediate action rather than panicking. Blocking your SIM card will help protect your bank and UPI services and protect your personal identity.
