Sugandam: This variety of turmeric becomes ready in 200 to 210 days. Its shape is slightly elongated and the color is light yellow. It produces 80 to 90 quintals per acre.
Pitambar: This variety of turmeric has been developed by the Central Institute of Medicinal and Aromatic Plants (CIMAP). It gets ready earlier than the rest of the turmeric. That is, it takes 5-6 months. Yield up to 270 quintals in one acre.
Sudarshan: This variety of turmeric is small in size, but beautiful in appearance. The crop is ripe and ready in 230 days. It gives 110 to 115 quintals per acre.
Soorma: Its color is different. This light orange colored turmeric crop is ready to ripen in 210 days. The production per acre is 80 to 90 quintals.
For the cultivation of garlic, turmeric and ginger in Madhya Pradesh, farmers of the general category are being given 50% of the cost and a maximum grant of Rs 50 thousand per hectare. Farmers belonging to SC/ST category are getting help of 70% or maximum Rs.70,000 per hectare. Apart from this, many schemes are being run to promote turmeric cultivation in other states as well.
