Antarctica s Doomsday Glacier melts faster than expected

In a study by the Thwaites Glacier, also known as the Doomsday Glacier , researchers at the University of Gothenburg, Sweden have found that this glacier is melting at a faster rate than previously anticipated.

The researchers succeeded in measuring the temperature, salinity, strength, and oxygen content of the ocean currents under the Thoites glacier with the help of a crewless submarine named Run .

Maharashtra has got India s first floating storage and regasification unit (FSRU). This unit reached the Jaigad Terminal Ratnagiri district of H-Energy in Maharashtra.

It is mentioned in H-Energy that, LNG Terminal - FSRU Hoag Giant had left from Keppel Shipyard in Singapore and the ship was anchored at Jaigad Terminal in Maharashtra on 12 April 2021.

This will be the first all-year liquefied natural gas (LNG) terminal in Maharashtra.

What is Doomsday Glacier?

The Thwaites Glacier in Antarctica is also known as the Doomsday (Doom / Doomsday) glacier. Once it melts, it has got this name due to the risk to the world.

Thwaites Glacier is the most volatile melting glacier, with a size of 1.9 lakh square kilometers and a width of 120 km.
