On 24 January 1966, Air India s Boeing 707 aircraft flew from Mumbai to New York, but it could not reach America. The aircraft crashed in the Alps Mountain Range in Europe. 117 people died in the accident. Among them was Dr. Homi Jahangir Bhabha, the scientist born in India s nuclear program.

1950: On this day, the Constituent Assembly elected the first President of the country. Apart from this, the National Anthem was adopted by the Constituent Assembly on 24 January 1950.

2011 - Bombing at Donodidovo Airport in Moscow kills 35 people, injures 180.

2010 - 56th National Film Awards for the year 2008 were announced. The film Endless was voted Best Feature Film, Marathi Actor Upendra Limaye for Best Actor and Actress Priyanka Chopra for Best Actress.
